General and Spare time and English08 Aug 2006 03:01 pm

Here comes the final report of our last days at Baylor, in general it is a lot of fun and spare time. Ho, also some cleaning of the appartment.

So when the presentation was finished on Thursday we did some final relaxation at Baylor. No hurry or other time pressure, just doing the things we like. First we went to the library were I made some holes in the papers I printed (do you know that from my last post? Empty paper, comments from Tom and the others, …). After the holes we passed the bookstore to get binders were I could put in all the papers. Raoul bought also a T-Shirt and Tom discovered the toga’s and assorted hats. Second we went to our apartment to change clothes and have some lunch. I believe we made hot-dogs. There we took all the stuff to do sporting. First stop was the SLC. A usual list of rock climbing, racquetball and running on the indoor track. Something that is on his place here. In the first week we were kidding to the rock staff about the fact there is no Texan flag on top of the rock. There was only an American flag and no one knows there was no Texan flag? Such a proud folk and no Texan flag … But we would change that, we promised to bring a Texan flag and put it on top of the wall. The first part of the plan (bringing the flag) was not a problem, but putting it on top was a little problem. We asked it to a lot of person and finally to the boss. And the boss asked it to his boss … On Wednesday evening the decision was made, we could bring the flag. For the moment there is some work in progress to get it there. As soon as possible we have some more news it will be published here.

After the great time at the SLC we went to the swimming pool at the Marina. It’s a nice there. No one else then our four and a lot of refreshing water. I quitted very early and read in a magazine. I also enjoyed the sun a lot. Tom and Ingo went for some kayaking and Raoul joined me on the sun terrace.

After the sporting we were hungry and went to our apartment were we made some pizza. It was not of the same quality as the first time, but a lot better then what you can get in fast-food restaurants. We wanted to finish our day with Common Grounds, but on our way to Common Grounds we first picked up some cleaning stuff at Diane’s apartment. Our trip to Common Grounds was quickly canceled, it was closed… We planned to clean our apartment during night so that we had more time on Friday. Before we started, we watched the Elephants Dream, a movie made with OpenSource software and published under the Creative Commons. I think we cleaned till 3 o’clock in the night/morning. In general we had a short night, but that was good else we had a huge jetlag on our return back home. We had our final breakfast/brunch with Croque Monsieurs and scrambled eggs. Then we started cleaning again and making our luggage. In the afternoon (2 o’clock) we finished cleaning and started taking pictures for our virtual map of Baylor. We toke a lot of pictures of routes we made every day. Tom (or someone else, except me) will make it interactive, so we can walk through Baylor at home. At 5:15 pm we had a group picture in front of the Rogers Building, followed by a “gone away party”.

After the nice food (the best hamburgers we ate here), we went again to the SLC. I did some final climbing work and we all finished together in the swimming pool. Then we said goodbye to the SLC and went to our apartment to pick up all the stuff (laptop) we needed in Common Grounds. Again something general about the climbing rock, Tom, Ingo and I get some pieces of ropes. We get our belay certificate there in the first week and as a kind of souvenir… You can find pictures about the ropes in Belgium at http://baylor.atpic.com.
Common Grounds was as usual very relaxing, we moved some pictures between the laptops and drank some Milky Way, frozen KoolAid and frozen WhiteChocolate. At 11.20 Common Grounds was closing, so at midnight we were back at our apartments. At the apartments was a BBQ, but we skipped it because we wanted to watch a movie and made a compilation CD with some Dutch music. Finally at 4 o’clock the CD was finished and so it only needs to be delivered. But the party was over so I needed to walk. Ingo and Raoul were already to bed and Tom was preparing to go. So I needed to walk alone. First stop was Ryan’s apartment were I taped the CD to the front door. Next stop was the girls apartment. It looks like everyone was asleep, so I also taped the CD to the door. But when I was doing that, Laura and Emily arrived. We returned back to our apartment were we found four Bibles that Laura had dropped of there earlier. A lot of thanks for that nice gift. We waked Tom and also tried Ingo and Raoul. Finally Laura and Emily decided to make “breakfast” for all the people. Therefore we went first to WallMart (no problem at 5 o’clock) and backed muffins at their apartment.

At 6 everyone was waked by Diane and normally Mary would there also. She has promised to be there at 4… But we forgive here that, because it was her birthday. Happy birthday Mary. We signed the English and a Dutch birthday song. And Mary liked the Duth one the most (more happiness in it, she found). [Homework: write a happy English birthday song.] We did the last cleaning and had a fast breakfast. At 7 it was time to say goodbye to everyone and at 7.30 we leaved Waco. At 7.45 we were back, because Diane forget something. No problem, we had time enough, our flight was at 11.55. I fell asleep during the bus drive to Dallas and also from Dallas to Washington Dulles. No idea what happened during the flight. Also from Washington to Shipholl a slept for a long time. As someone has to tell something about that, feel free to add it.

At 6.30 am local time we arrived safely at Shipholl. A had no problem of a jetlag, because I drove home and had also a nice afternoon in Delft. For dinner I had some real Belgium fries with mayonnaise, it was a great return to Belgium and hope I can see a lot of people again in my life.

Greets Christophe

Some extra:

On the last days we found out how to catch a squirrel. Its very easy. You need two persons. One acts that he is taking a picture of the squirrel and the other tags the squirrel in the back. There are a lot more details, but if there is interest for we possible must start some initiation lessons. Our vision is/was to make this an Olympic sport :-~ .

The end score is:

  • 50 for Ingo
  • 20 for Tom
  • 20 for Raoul
  • 10 for Christophe

Let us know if there is, maybe you can take a picture then, that would be great :)

I love flying now by the way, the view is just magical. I only can’t sleep on a plane, it’s just like a bus. Maybe in first class I can. Have to try that someday when I’m the CEO of a major company ;)
